2008 Summer Camps
ASM Materials Camp - June 23-27, 2008, 9:00
am - 3:30 pm
Materials Camp is a week-long opportunity for high school
students to learn about materials science through hands-on
experiments. Students will work with and study
single molecule detection, computer modeling, carbon nanotubes,
laser processing, rockets and jets.
Computational Science Workshop - June 30 - July 11, 2008,
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Fifteen area students, entering the
8th and 9th grades the fall 2008, and three teachers will have an opportunity to learn the technologies, techniques, and tools of computational science during a two-week session at The University of Tennessee Space Institute.
In the workshop, students will learn how to use models, modify
existing models, and create models from scratch. Topics being
studied include computational astrophysics, meteorology,
agriculture, genomics, epidemiology, pharmacokinetics and drug
design, 3D graphics, and computational chemistry.
Tech Camp - July 14 - 18, 2008,
9:00 am - 3:30 pm Tech
Camp is an exciting opportunity in which rising 6th and 7th grade
students spend five days engaged in fun and exciting activities alongside professionals in
the fields of Material Science,
Nanotechnology,
Alternative Energies, Information Technologies, Aviation and
Multidisciplinary Engineering.
Activities are led by technological professionals working
closely with middle school students and teachers to create an
environment that engages students and captivates their interest in
science. Science Camp -
July 28 - August 1, 2008, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Science Camp
is for rising 4th and 5th grade students in fall
2008 who are motivated and inquisitive learners. Students
will be learning about Newton's laws of motion as well as his
theories on optics and gravitation with lots of fun hands-on
learning experiences.
